Hosting for a broker environment
Broker hosting is more than selecting a virtual machine. Trading servers, bridges, feed services, databases and monitoring can have different resource and network requirements. Begin with the components to deploy and their dependencies. An infrastructure plan should identify where each service runs, how components communicate and who is responsible for maintenance and access.
Capacity and location requirements
Estimate concurrent usage, instrument count, update volume, storage growth and integration load. Use actual measurements from an existing system where possible. Location should be evaluated against the relevant platform, execution endpoints and operational team, rather than a general promise of low latency. Record the measurement method and distinguish network round-trip time from application processing time.
Backups need a recovery objective
Define what must be protected, how often backups are taken and how long they are retained. Recovery point and recovery time objectives describe different needs: acceptable data loss and acceptable time to restore service. A backup that has not been restored in a controlled test does not establish that the environment can be recovered.
Production access and monitoring
Agree administrative roles, credential handling, patch windows and an escalation process. Monitoring should cover platform availability, disk capacity, integration health and the status of recovery jobs. Alerts need a responsible recipient and a documented action; a dashboard alone does not provide incident ownership.
What to include in a hosting request
Share the platform components, existing resource measurements, preferred geography and availability requirements. Identify third-party access restrictions and which data can leave the current environment. Ask for a proposal separating provisioned resources, operational management, backup services and recovery testing.
