Calculate a simple FX margin estimate
The calculator uses base-currency units multiplied by the quote price, divided by leverage, then converted from quote currency to account currency. Supply a positive conversion rate; use 1 only when the currencies match. The result displays the account currency you enter. Prices and conversion rates are your inputs, not a live feed.
Work through the default example
100,000 units at a price of 1.10 create a quote-currency notional of 110,000. With leverage of 100, the simple estimate is 1,100 in the quote currency. With a quote-to-account conversion of 0.9, the estimate becomes 990 in the account currency. This example describes the formula, not an available trading product.
Understand the model boundaries
Actual margin can depend on the instrument calculation mode, broker configuration, tiered leverage, hedged positions and the account’s existing exposures. This calculator models a single straightforward FX position. Do not apply it as a universal formula to futures, options or every CFD.
Check the instrument and account settings
Confirm units, quote currency, margin calculation method and effective leverage in the applicable platform configuration. Required margin is different from total account funding, and changing market or account conditions can change the requirement. Compare the estimate with the platform calculation before using it in an operational workflow.
