MT4 vs MT5 for Brokers

Compare the two platform families as infrastructure choices rather than only as trader terminals.

01

Compare the operating environment, not just the terminal

For a broker, platform choice affects account workflows, integration code, instrument configuration and operations. A mature MT4 estate may contain dependencies that are expensive to replace. An MT5 project should be evaluated against its intended account model and integrations. Neither choice can be reduced to which interface looks newer.

02

Automation and account-model differences

MT4 automation is associated with MQL4; MT5 uses MQL5. Existing automated tools should be reviewed for the target environment instead of assuming that a compiled programme transfers unchanged. MT5 supports netting and hedging position accounting; the applicable mode depends on the account configuration. These distinctions matter when testing client workflows and reporting.

03

Integration compatibility is a separate assessment

List the CRM connectors, bridge interfaces, plugins, reports and internal tools currently used. Confirm that each supplier supports the intended target and has the required access. A component with a similar name can still expose a different interface. Run representative account and order workflows in the proposed environment rather than relying only on a feature comparison.

04

A practical decision matrix

Assess platform choice against the workload you actually need: existing automation, instrument definitions, account accounting, supplier compatibility and migration complexity. Treat unsupported assumptions as open requirements. The table below is a project checklist, not a promise that every provider package makes every platform function available.

05

When migration needs its own project

Changing platform family can require account and symbol mapping, replacement integrations, revised reporting and a coordinated cutover. Define what happens to existing operational state and how results will be reconciled. Consider a staged implementation where appropriate, and agree acceptance and rollback criteria before the production switch.
